Prof. Kah is the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost & Professor of Information Technology & Computing at American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State. He served as Vice Rector for Technology & Innovation and Founding Dean of the School of Information Technology & Engineering at ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan (2015-2017). He is also the former and third Vice Chancellor (President/Rector) of The University of The Gambia (UTG) (2009-2015), where he also held the position of Professor of Information Technology & Communications and Overseer/Principal of the Gambia Teachers College. Prof. Kah was the first Gambian born to provide leadership for the University of The Gambia, successfully completing his tenure serving for six years. In recognition for his leadership of the University and contributions to human development and the higher education sector, he was awarded a Doctor of Science( Honoris Causa) by the University of The Gambia in February 2016.
In his 20-plus years in higher education, Kah has held teaching and leadership positions in the U.S., the Middle East, The caucuses and Africa. His first full-time academic position was as Director of institutional research and strategic planning at Bloomfield College, New Jersey, USA. He would go on to cement his career in academia at highly reputable Universities-Howard, George Washington and Rutgers developing and teaching courses in information technology, computer science and information systems. In addition, he also served in the United Arab Emirates(UAE) at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) as Department Chairman In MIS and a faculty Member at the Business School.
Prior to becoming UTG’s President (Vice Chancellor) in 2009, Prof. Kah spent 4 years in Nigeria as the Founding Dean of the School of Information Technology and Communications at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) where he doubled for a year as Interim Dean of the School of Business & Entrepreneurship. While at AUN, he founded the African Center for ICT Innovation and Training, and served as Interim CIO and later as a Board of Trustee member. Prof. Kah was honored to be a regular contributor of the Africa Module in the Advanced Leadership (ALP) Program at the Cambridge Judge Business School and was appointed an honorary Fellow in 2016-2017 of the Judge Business School and the Digital Innovation Center, University of Cambridge.
Prof. Kah is passionate about Higher Education, Information Technologies, Emerging Technologies and in advancing the human condition in developing societies, through strengthening the education value chain and ecosystem, improving and disrupting the delivery and sharing of knowledge contents, learning engagements to enhance and strengthen the quality of learning outcomes. He is keenly interested and passionate about how the emerging disciplines, digital platforms and services and disruptions in technologies will re-shape our futures, address challenges, provides opportunities and prosperity to societies. And, how to prepare adequately, build competences, skills and capacity for the youths to prepare them to be dependable participants, actors, agents and creators of products and services using these emerging technologies to prepare them adequately for employment and to be creators of employment for wealth creation and sustainability in the 4IR. He serves in many boards in banking (Chairman-Zenith Bank-The Gambia) and higher education boards and governing Councils (African University of Science and Technology, Abuja). He also serves as a member of the Malabo Montpellier Panel and served in the International Programs Committee of the EuroScience Forum 2018, amongst others.
Prof. Kah completed his BS, MS. and Ph.D. at the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, one of the top engineering and technology management universities in the USA. Prof. Kah also holds a Masters of Science in Finance (Financial Engineering) from George Washington University, Washington, DC. In addition, he completed the Advanced Leadership (ALP) Program of the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, a Postgraduate Diploma (DipSI) in Strategy and Innovation from the Said Business School, University of Oxford, UK and a Postgraduate Certificate in Corporate Governance from INSEAD.
In addition, he completed several Executive Education Programs: the Advanced Leadership (ALP) Program of the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge; Advanced Leadership Re- Union & Follow-Up Program in Singapore, Cambridge Judge Business School; Beyond Innovation: Business Models For Transformation & Competitive Advantage (Online Program), Cambridge Judge Business School; Transforming Leadership For 21st Century Africa, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University and The Voice of Leadership; Inspiration, Influence & Impact, Graduate School of Media & Communication, The AGA KHAN University. In Corporate Governance, he has completed the highly reputable International Directors Program (IDP) and is an Internationally Certified Director (IDP-C) from INSEAD and is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD), London, UK.
