Keynote Address:

Higher Education in the Green and Digital Transitions: Challenges, Trends and Opportunities

Mr. Simon Roy, Head of Higher Education Policy Team , OECD, Directorate for Education and Skills, France

The green and digital transitions have profound implications for the nature and development of economic activity across the globe, demand for skills and the design and functioning of our education and training systems. Higher education systems and providers face a double challenge. They must tailor their missions and educational offerings to ensure students gain competencies relevant for rapidly evolving, highly digitalised, green economies, while also adapting their internal functioning to make best use of the opportunities offered by digital technologies, including artificial intelligence. This keynote will draw on work by the OECD to explore some of the latest evidence on how the green and digital transitions are shaping demand for advanced skills in advanced economies and how higher education systems internationally are responding, in terms of adapting their offerings, stepping up efforts to support upskilling and reskilling and deploying technology in their educational activities.
