Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama is a distinguished Egyptian academic and leader in higher education and scientific research, currently serving as the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities.
Dr. Salama is a Professor of Structural Engineering at Helwan University, Egypt, with an extensive career spanning academia, government, and public service. He has held the position of Counselor at The American University in Cairo (AUC), acting as the key liaison between the AUC administration and Egyptian authorities. In this role, he cultivated strong relationships with ministries, universities, and the Supreme Council of Universities, facilitating the accreditation process for AUC’s academic degrees.
Dr. Salama has also served as the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt, and as a member of the Shura Council, where he chaired the Housing Committee. His leadership extends to professional and charitable organizations, including his current roles as Chairman of the Management Engineering Society, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and President of the Executive Bureau of 57357 Foundation (Children’s Cancer Hospital). He also chairs the Council of Housing and Building at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Salama served as President of Helwan University, Chairman of the Housing and Building National Research Centre, and Chair of the University’s Centre for Technology Development, in addition to his longstanding contributions as a Professor of Civil Engineering.
Dr. Salama’s academic credentials are exemplary: he holds a PhD in Structural Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK, a Master’s in Maritime Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cairo University. His achievements have been recognized with the Excellency Award in 2006, the State Award for Science in Engineering in 2012, an Honorary Professorship from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2020, and an Honorary Doctorate from Belgorod Moscow State University in 2021.
