Keynote Address:
Embedding Vocational Considerations into the Curriculum: Putting Tertiary Education to Work
Dr. Roberta Malee Bassett, Global Lead for Tertiary Education, The World Bank
As access to tertiary education expands and students’ goals become increasingly diverse, the emphasis on higher skills and better job prospects has grown significantly for both students and societies. Research highlights that tertiary education is one of the most valuable investments for governments and individuals, driving labor force participation, technological advancements, and higher returns on educational investments. To align with these evolving demands, higher education institutions—whether technical, teaching, or research-focused—must support both curricular and co-curricular reforms. These reforms are essential to ensure that the opportunities provided are relevant and beneficial. By maintaining agility, responsiveness, and relevance, tertiary education systems can amplify their substantial benefits to individuals and societies.
