Dr. Nadim Farajalla is Chief Sustainability Officer at the Lebanese American University (LAU), a role he assumed in March 2024. He leads the development and implementation of LAU’s sustainability strategy, advancing institution-wide integration of environmental stewardship, climate resilience, and social responsibility across academic and operational domains to strengthen the university’s long-term impact.
Prior to joining LAU, Dr. Farajalla founded and led the Climate Change and Environment Program at the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut. His work focused on climate change impacts on urban systems and the water–energy–food–climate nexus, with emphasis on adaptation planning, resilience, and evidencebased policy support.
He has also held senior privatesector roles, including Senior Scientist at Stone Environmental, Inc. (USA), Senior Environmental Engineer at Dar AlHandasah, and Founding Director of the Land, Water and Environment Department at SETS International. His expertise spans water resources management, environmental assessment, and infrastructure planning.
He holds a B.S. in Agricultural Sciences from AUB, an M.S. in Irrigation Engineering from Utah State University, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
He has authored numerous publications addressing water scarcity, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability across the Middle East and North Africa.
