Even Chat GPT knows that “in today’s increasingly complex world and in the face of new and unexpected challenges such as pandemics or geopolitical shifts, universities must be agile and responsive, reimagining their roles in society to provide innovative solutions.” For higher education leaders, being prepared to the unexpected, and being willing to challenge the many traditional assumptions we have about what is good and bad in our work, is a necessary step towards the envisioning of more engaged universities. In times of complexity and uncertainty, higher education institutions no longer can be just passive, immutable and highly resisting to change organizations, but rather should become more active, adaptable and transformational.
